LinguaTrans™ is driven by the LinguaBASE™ translation engine, which employs proprietary high-throughput neuronal networks that learn to translate by autonomously examining corpora of parallel text. Conventional translation systems require thousands of grammatical rules to translate even at the most basic level. This severely restricts throughput and development time. Our approach increases the probability of an accurate translation and improvements to accuracy can be made for future translations by using new post-edited translations, effectively teaching the system how to improve. Unlike conventional translation systems, LinguaTrans™ is also able to provide for better translation accuracy by approaching text sequences at the phrase level, thereby minimising word-to-word translation.

LinguaBASE™, works by mining parallel corpora for phrases that share semantic similarities. These phrases represent concepts shared between languages, with each corpora representing a concept map of a particular language. The addition of new languages involves the mapping of the new language concepts to concepts for existing languages. By avoiding the need to program linguistic rules for each pair of languages, multiple sets of languages pairs can be developed very quickly.

What Makes Our Technology Unique?
The computational efficiency of LinguaTrans™ enables real-time translation speeds of 500,000 words per minute per CPU, which is up to 100 times faster than the best commercial systems currently available. Not only does this give you the ability to search and surf the Internet in your language of choice, but it also means, given adequate corpora, prototypes of new language pairs can be rolled out in a matter of months.

The extreme throughput of LinguaBASE™ also lends to its potential application in the real-time monitoring of information flows such as email and other communications, which may be of particular interest to governments and security organisations.

Why Develop an English - Bahasa Malaysia System?
There are no fast and accurate English-Malay machine translation systems available anywhere in the world. Linguamatix decided to meet this challenge head-on by using English and Bahasa Malaysia as the demonstration language pair for its LinguaTrans™ prototype. The company hopes LinguaTrans™ and LinguaWeb™ will encourage the translation of a greater volume of English material into Bahasa Malaysia.
